7 design trends for 2017

Happy New Year everyone!!! Wow…2017!

We have made it and we are out in full force. The resolutions have been set and the home projects are underway. If you are like most home decor enthusiasts, you are looking for ways to integrate and update your home with some fresh, new design trends.

Look no further, because I am here to bring you my top 7 design trends for 2017!! I don’t like to follow the crowd & create a top 5 or top 10 list, so top 7 it is. If you’d like to see what I think will be trending this year then keep on reading:

1. Black & Timber

I love the Scandinavian, yet modern look of black and timber together. It’s clean. It’s regal. It showcases strong lines with natural timber and this combination is a beautiful one. I have seen this look more in Australian interior design, but this is one design trend you do not want to ignore.

2. Jeweled Tones

It’s like Aladdin in real life! These beautiful rich, ornate tones splash their way into home decor in 2017. I love the lushness, yet striking hues that are available in each jeweled piece. You can see from the images above that jewel tones can be available in wall colors, decor and accessories or pieces of furniture. How will you incorporate jewel (not the singer) in your home?

3. Copper

There is always a metal of the year and I am not just talking about rings and bling…
Copper is making yet another statement in the world today and this time, we are marinating it into home decor. Unlike the starkness of silver or platinum, copper is a more muted metal tone which makes it easy to pair with other color palettes in your home. I love pairing copper with neutrals to give it a bit of stage presence in the home.

4. Mid Century Modern

Mid-century modern has my heart in every way possible. All your curves and all your edges…yes John Legend, you were right about this one! There is something about mid-century modern design that I gravitate towards. It opens up the realms of possibilities when decorating. It gives you a statement piece without taking anything away from the other pieces in the home. This design style isn’t going anywhere!

5. Marble Wallpaper

Feature walls. The new trend that is taking the place of brick or stone walls and making a bold statement. I love the simplistic yet refined quality that these marble feature walls give. If you are more of a traditionalist decorator, then this trend won’t be for you but it looks like feature walls, and especially one with marble are sticking around for a bit.

6. Navy is the new black

Orange might be the new black in politics but navy is the new black in home decor. My favorite color has always been blue – various hues of blue for as long as I remember and one of my go-tos is navy. I was pleasantly surprised to see navy making an appearance in kitchens. I love the boldness of navy and how is mirrors well no matter where you place it. How do you feel about the navy trend?

7. Upholstered headboards

One of my favorite trends for 2017 is the emergence of upholstered headboards in the bedroom. Headboards are not a new trend – in fact, most people had headboards that matched well with the nightstands and dressers. Today, headboards are becoming statement pieces all on their own. Nailhead trims are a staple in headboard design & these pieces are ones you want to invest into for quality! Do you have a statement piece in your bedroom?

If you’ve made it this far through the post, then I know you are just as excited as me for design trends to start popping up throughout this year. What was your favorite trend? Leave a comment down below with your favorite or least favorite piece.
Stay tuned, because all this month, we will be blogging about home renos and how to best tackle the desire to renovate!
